Selection "Bees, smallpox, potatoes. The beginnings of practical advice books"

From 9 March to 20 May 2023, a selection "Bees, smallpox, potatoes. The beginnings of practical advice books" of the collection will be displayed in the "World of Rarities" room of the National Library of Latvia (on the 5th level).

Advice books showing how to live better, avoid sicknesses, and earn a lot of money are popular not only today – their beginnings in the Latvian book industry can be traced back to the Enlightenment, more than two hundred years ago. How Latvians acquired the latest developments in agriculture, financial literacy, cooking, health prevention and many other useful skills – the answer to these questions is provided by the selection of practical advice books of the 18–19th century.
