International conference “The Day of Baltic Unity”

On 19 September 2024, an international conference dedicated to the Day of Baltic Unity was held at the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia.
Pauls Daija, Dr. philol., literary scholar, historian of book publishing and Head of Research at the National Library of Latvia, presented his lecture “The Bookshelf of a Latvian Peasant in the 18th and 19th Centuries”.
Zane Ramiņa, Dr. arch., architect, Chief Expert of the Library Service of Riga Central Library, focused her presentation on her research “Where were the Books Kept in the Latvian Peasant Farm”.
The topic of the lecture by Editas Matonytés, librarian of the Central Library of Vilnius City Municipality, was “The Path of the Lithuanian Word 1864–1904”.
Since 2000, the Day of Baltic Unity is celebrated annually on 22 September symbolizing the unity between the Latvian and Lithuanian nations – the only two Baltic nations that exist today. The goal of this day is to strengthen cultural and historical ties between Latvians and Lithuanians.
