Essey competition “Libraries in Manor houses”

The Lettonica and Baltic Centre of the National Library of Latvia, in cooperation with the Library Development Centre, is announcing an essay competition for libraries, memory institutions and other book repositories from 15 January to 23 October 2025. Essays should be submitted by March 3.

Participate if you have something to share about the library’s former or current home in an old manor building or a place where a manor once was located. Maybe you know a story about a private or public library that was once located in the manor house or in another building? Maybe you know a library that once operated in your area with the support of the manor? Only each of you in those specific places know the amount of strength and knowledge needed to operate an old manor building in such a way it properly serves the needs of our modern society. Write an essay about all of this, specifying the author, institution represented, sources and literature used, as well as attaching up to five photographs.
